Jesus said, “Let the
little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven
belongs to such as these.” - Matthew 19:14
We all love little
children. Sometimes we romanticize about
how sweet and innocent they are. Well,
as a now veteran parent, I can assure you that they are not all lollypops and
ice cream. A realistic understanding of
human nature points to the fact that we are born sinners. We are. Our instinct, from the get go, is to do
bad. We have to be taught good and to respond
in kind. I could get deeper into this, but let my few words suffice here.
If this is a rather
dreary view of humanity, sorry. Welcome
to the real world.
But there is such
good news. In this passage Jesus points
to a group of children to highlight an object lesson.
We remain, in the
view of God, children throughout our lives.
Which means there is this welcoming open invitation by Jesus to us
children to come to him. And then we are told (and this is the lollypops and
ice cream) that the kingdom of heaven belongs to us! That would be like saying to a child, this
whole playground…is yours. Enjoy!
Welcome children.
You are so loved by
your papa!
And again, welcome
to the real world!
