“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
Day and day out, we are faced with pressure. If you have
a job, you have it because to can take some of the pressure. Frankly, why would anyone pay you if you
couldn’t? I’ve had two careers, first as
an electrician; and since 2000 as a pastor.
Both involve varying degrees of pressure (sometimes high voltage
pressure). As someone recently told me,
“That’s why we pay you the big bucks.”
Funny.
As trusters and believers in Christ, sometimes we place
too much pressure on ourselves. We need
to grow, we need to witness, we need to pray, we need to study the Scriptures,
we need to minister to our neighbor, we need to devote ourselves to the
disciplines.
They are all good things.
And we need to do all of them.
But this passage above is just a quick gentle reminder
for a Friday morning. That it is he
(God) who began a good work in any of us.
And it is he (God) that will bring it to completion at the proper time.
It’s just not all up to us.
What has God begun in you that he will bring to
fruition? What is Jesus Christ doing in
and through you that maybe you just need to relax and just allow to
happen? What barriers are we pressing on
ourselves that might be frustrating what Jesus is doing with and through you?
Friends, have a blessed weekend, and may he who began a
good work in you use the weekend to bring you closer to its completion.
And...ditch the pressure.
