“Finally, be strong
in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” - Ephesians 6:10-11
I know as you read this, you might be thinking to
yourself, “We’re just getting into celebrating Easter. Let us bask in the glow of the resurrection
of Jesus for a while before warning us about the ‘schemes of the devil.”
The problem is the devil likes to attack when we are
feeling good; when we’ve celebrated; when we’ve actually experienced a
particular grace or achieved something for the kingdom of Christ. Recently I had the privilege of being part of
an installation team for a pastor moving into the area. My first prayer for him and his wife (and I
shared part of the prayer at the installation service) was for protection for
them from the evil one. For it is at
such great times that evil attacks.
I am reminded of Peter’s words in one of his letters when
he warned, “Be sober-minded; be watchful.
Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to
devour.” (visit 1 Peter 5:8) Tough
but truthful words. Like a lion.
Friends…Jesus is risen!
In that fact we have much to celebrate and be grateful for. Frankly…it’s party time!
But…
Be aware. The schemes
are real. And they are everywhere, prowling and seeking someone to devour. Look
out for that Lion.
